Glen Pond has extensive experience with issues affecting public employee groups gained from a distinguished career in local and state government. He is currently part of the Advantus lobbying and advocacy team, working on behalf of the Virginia Governmental Employees Association. He served for 18 years as the Director of the Virginia Retirement System, one of the most highly regarded public pensions systems in the United States, prior to taking his current position in 1998.
Pond started his career as a public school teacher in Fairfax County, rising to the position of school principal before leaving to join the staff of the Virginia Education Association. During his tenure there he served as Northern Virginia Regional Director and, after moving to Richmond, Director of Legislative Services. Glen is a graduate of American University with a B.A., and an M.Ed. He currently resides in King William County with his wife, the former Joan Dent. Glen and Joan have six children and 13 grandchildren between them.
